Billy Currington – Swimmin’ In Sunshine

In afwachting van de nieuwe single Hey Girl van Billy Currington grijpen we nog even terug naar het openingsnummer Swimming In Sunshine van zijn meest recente album Little Bit Of Everything.

Hier wel alvast een review van de nieuwe single:

The vibe of 1980s adult pop are alive and well with Billy Currington’s sultry new single “Hey Girl.” Written by Rhett Akins, Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley, “Hey Girl” shows a side many might be surprised to hear from BIlly Currington but as someone who has heard the deep cuts on each of his three albums, the southern-fried Lionel Richie-ish sound of “Hey Girl” isn’t unexpected.

While completely reminding me of those great hook-filled mid/late 1980s adult pop songs melodically, “Hey Girl” still features a strong vocal and fiddle and steel guitars that are audible more than one might expect. Working with Dann Huff for the first time, Billy Currington sounds completely at home singing this uptempo melody and while it’s different from the stuff he did with Carson Chamberlain on his first three albums, “Hey Girl” isn’t much of a stretch lyrically or sonically.

The vocal is passionate, the lyrics are all about the way a pretty little thing makes a guy feel the moment he sees her. He’s gotta give it a shot, take a chance at ‘try[ing] to make you mine.’ This song is youthful and fun and while fans of Billy Currington’s natural country twang may ultimately dislike it, as far as lead singles go, “Hey Girl” is a straight-up smash hit.

Songtekst:

I only slept for a couple of hours
In the back of my buddy’s truck
I must be runnin’ on solar power
‘Cause I’m ready to crank back up

And the boys are all bangin’ on cheap guitars
And the girls are all rockin’ their bikini tops
And that big ball’s way up in the sky
My baby says “Hey I think I wanna get wet”
So we hot sand hop it to the waters’ edge
Hey, it’s so good to be alive
Swimmin’ in sunshine
Swimmin’ in sunshine

There’s a hole in my beach towel
There’s a hole in the atmosphere
we got the shade of the lifeguard tower
Yeah, that’s where we keep the beer

And the boys are all bangin’ on cheap guitars
And the girls are all rockin’ their bikini tops
And that big ball’s way up in the sky
My baby says “Hey I think I wanna get wet”
So we hot sand hop it to the waters’ edge
Hey, it’s so good to be alive
Swimmin’ in sunshine
Swimmin’ in sunshine
Havin’ a good time
Swimmin’ in sunshine

Yeah I know Monday always comes again
So I just wanna soak it in

And the boys are all bangin’ on cheap guitars
And the girls are all rockin’ their bikini tops
And that big ball’s way up in the sky
My baby’s into lockin’ in a Coppertone tan
So Im slowin motion lotion in with both of my hands
Hey, its so good to be alive
Swimmin’ in sunshine
Swimmin’ in sunshine
Havin’ a good time
Swimmin’ in sunshine

La da da da da da da da
La da da da da da da da da da
Swimmin’ in sunshine
